Self-Publishing, Promoting, or Marketing – A Few Great Links to Check Out

Organic advertising and marketing is spreading like wildfire, so in keeping with our earlier messages of providing valuable content and promoting others, we wanted to take the time to share a few of our favorite blogs with everyone.

Most of today’s links provide insight into social media updates and helpful tips, but we also offer a few “how-to” guides involving the digital world.

Enjoy!

Google+ is growing rapidly and is approaching 90 Million users, adding almost 625,000 users per day (via the LA Times Blog).  Perhaps part of the reason is because Google is now Forcing All new Users to Create Google+ Enabled Accounts.  That’s not necessarily a bad thing, not with the way social media evolves every day.  This should actually save users a few steps in the sign up process.  Thanks to Marketing Land for bringing the Unofficial Google Operating System Blog to our attention!

Whether we like it or not, the new Facebook Timeline will no longer be an option (via Yahoo! News).  That’s right; the 800 million users currently using social media’s largest platform will now see even more new changes.  The Timeline has been available, and a few users have updated their profile pages – but many have not.  It’s now time to face the music.

Everyone must blog: businesses, writers, everyone.  Blogging is simply another crucial way to put our names and products out there and provide valuable content to those following us.  But where do we begin? Marketing expert Heidi Cohen shares 20 Blog Post Questions to Help us.  She answers questions regarding blog topics, target audience, and using keywords appropriately.

For those interested in organic marketing, Heidi also provides the Must-Read Social Media Books of 2011.  Even better yet, she includes the Twitter handles for many of the authors listed in the top fourteen.

Everyone knows that the popular e-reader is taking over: Kindle, Nook, i-Pad, Tablet, etc…  Many households own at least one, if not two.  HubSpot Blog shares New Data Revealing the Sudden Explosion of Tablet and E-Reader Usage with us – look at these numbers!  In one month, the number of users increased almost 20%.

Staying on topic, HubSpot Blog also provides us with the 30 Top e-Books to Help Master Inbound Marketing, perfect reading material for the increasing number of e-readers out there.  The list focuses on organic marketing, utilizing social media and SEO, and understanding analytics.

We’ve discussed the importance of content when partaking in social media, whether it be blogging, Twitter, Facebook, or any of the other platforms out there.  But how do we know what content is good content, or content we should be sharing? Jeff Bullas takes us down the right path with The 10 Commandments of Social Media Content Marketing.  His steps include some of the basics like getting focused and creating goals, but he also wants us to solve problems and show what works.  This post is a really valuable read.

Many professionals (large companies, writers, musicians, artists, etc…) use Twitter to market themselves – organically.  But not all Tweets interest those following – so how do we grab their attention? Dan Zarrella walks us through a How to Get More Clicks on Twitter, including Tweet length, Tweet timing, and using Tweet keywords.   Plus, he uses great infographics for the visual crowd.

Last month, we shared Jeff Bulla’s Beginner’s Guide on How to Video Blog on a Budget – Part One.  Luckily for us, Jeff has now also published Part Two featuring tips on lighting and audio.

Hollywood promotes its films via the ever popular television spots and movie trailers, right?  So why not promote our books via a book trailer?  From what we’ve seen, many of the self-published authors market their novels by way of this video craze.  But how do we make one? WordServe Watercooler generously walks us through the steps in Making a Book Trailer.
